MEGAN YOUNG of the Philippines won the Miss World crown Saturday night. The win was a bit controversial though since one of the judges admitted that Sen. Franklin Drilon offered 50 million pesos to those who voted for her.
From a record 127 hopefuls, the judges picked only five to advance to the final round – prompting Jinggoy Estrada to accuse Miss World of being “selective.”
Filipinos everywhere are still talking about Megan Young and her Miss World victory. That’s great news for Bong, Jinggoy, and Enrile.
Before Megan Young, the Philippines has never won a Miss World title. The country waited 63 long years before it finally clinched the elusive victory. Let this moment inspire you… Richard Gomez.
A bloc of congressmen has filed a resolution honoring Miss World 2013 Megan Young. These lawmakers and Megan’s victory have something in common. Predictable.
From PDAF to DAP
Budget Secretary Butch Abad confirmed that additional funds were given to legislators after the Corona impeachment trial last year. But Abad maintained that the releases were not rewards, not bribes, and not incentives. He called it Disbursement Acceleration Program – or as the public would say, “Whateverrr!”
Reports say senators and congressmen received lump sum funds from Butch Abad’s Disbursement Acceleration Program or DAP. That’s 50 million pesos each for senators and 15 million each for congressmen. Sought for reaction, the legislators said they couldn’t wait for another impeachment.
Reports say senators who voted to convict Chief Justice Renato Corona received a total of P1.107 billion on top of their pork barrel allocation from the Department of Budget. BREAKING: An extremely embarrassed Santa Claus will not show up this year.
Records showed Sen. Franklin Drilon received the largest amount of DAP allocation – 100 million pesos! The amount was so huge, DAP ought to be renamed Drilon’s Amazing Pork.
Quoted by the Inquirer, Sen. Franklin Drilon said, “I hope the public will listen to our explanation that we did not pocket everything.” Right. Just a portion of it.
Malacañang has released the list of official holidays for 2014. Unfortunately, the list does not include a pork holiday.
Believe it or not, two congressmen are filing a bill that would require restaurants and similar establishments to serve half cups of rice instead of a full cup per serving to address the issue of rice wastage. How about addressing the issue of time wastage?
Batangas Rep. Mark Llandro Mendoza and Butil party-list Rep. Agapito Guanlao wanted to require restaurants to serve half cups of rice only. Filipinos have a term for that: unnecessary.
Twitter Break, Again
Amid what she labeled as “intrigues” and “meanness of people,” actress and TV host Sharon Cuneta announced that she’s taking a break from Twitter – again. To which Twitter replied, “Thank you Lord!”
“He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have.”
“These fund releases have recently been touted as ‘bribes,’ ‘rewards,’ or ‘incentives.’ They were not. The releases, which were mostly for infrastructure projects, were part of what is called the Disbursement Acceleration Program designed by the Department of Budget and Management to ramp up spending and help accelerate economic expansion.”
~Budget Sec. Butch Abad
“As a service to the Filipino people, dapat magbigti na kaming lahat.”
~Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago on her fellow senators
Congratulations Megan Young!
