FIRST OF ALL, congratulations to all of us, to every Filipino for being the luckiest people in the world – during elections. We probably have the most number of countrymen who wanted to ‘serve’ us.

The funny thing was, all of them promised, within six years, to accomplish two major things that even God has failed to do in two billion years: ending poverty and stamping out corruption. Cute!

The historic automated general election takes place Monday, May 10. Yes, it’s now happening. We all survived several months of mudslinging, unbelievable pitches, excruciating political ads, unprecedented spending, malfunctioning PCOS machines, psychiatric reports, and Nanay Curing.

But was it all worth it?

As we prepare to vote, let us review the events of the past five months and hand out some trophies to the best and the worst of this year’s elections.

For some of the categories, there will be a winner and a runner-up. Again, you must remember, the role of the runner-up is very crucial. If, for any reason, the winner declines the award, the trophy will be forcibly given to the runner-up. Are you ready?

The winners, in no particular significance are:

“Nagulat Kayo ‘Noh?” Award
Winner: Iglesia ni Cristo
Think American Idol 2009. Manny Villar was the Adam Lambert to Noynoy Aquino’s Kris Allen and INC represented the voting public. It was all Adam from Episode 1 to the final performance night. And then came the shocker at the finalé: the public voted for Kris. Unfortunately for Villar, this is not a singing tilt, and the INC is not voting for a second placer.
Runner-up: Albay Governor Joey Salceda
A week after gathering his Lakas party mates for a loyalty check, he abandoned them. Nakakaloka! Apparently, Noynoy Aquino is a believer of Joey Salceda so he made an offer Joey couldn’t refuse. Ang haba ng hair mo girl!

“If You Can’t Beat Them, Sue Them!” Award
Winner: Sen. Richard Gordon
This just in! A survey conducted in the Gordon household revealed that Richard Gordon was the top choice of cooks, nannies, and drivers for president. The gardener who conducted the survey is now facing a lawsuit from the Bagumbayan standard-bearer.

“Peke ng Ina Mo ” Award
Winner: The Nacionalista Party, its die-hards, and the fake psych evaluation report
Two reasons why the ‘mentallly-challenged’ issue against a certain candidate failed: One, the documentary evidence presented was a fake. Two, we already knew it.
Runner-up: The Nacionalista Party, its die-hards, and the second fake psych evaluation report
Reason why it failed: the producers (NP) totally forgot that movie sequels traditionally bomb at the box-office

“Ayan, Kasi. Itlog Pa Lang, Nagbilang na Agad ng Sisiw” Award
Winner: Mar Roxas
Interviewed a month ago, he confidently asserted there’s no way he’d lose the VP race. Until Francis Joseph Escudero made a pitch for the candidate “na may B.”
Two reasons why Roxas would probably lose: One, Jejomar Binay has more than one presidential candidate. Two, Roxas’ got half.

“Bugbog-Sarado” Award
Winner: Manny Villar
The ‘use’ of Nanay Curing says it all.

“Mehh Ganun?” Award otherwise known as the “Cheesiest Declaration of a Political Endorsement” Award
Winner: Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, Kingdom of Jesus Christ: The Name Above Every Name
Gib Obama, Gibo Obama.”

Three letters and an exclamation point: WTF!

“Weapon of Mass Appeal Destruction” Award
Runaway Winner: The “Villarroyo” tag
Two reasons why it worked against Villar: One, the public really hated GMA. Two, it’s true.

“Punyeta! Pati Ako Napapakanta!” Award
Jingle
The ad propelled the NP standard-bearer to a statistical tie with his closest rival, and its catchy tune produced this generation’s youngest political turncoat – Baby James. Vilyay!
Runner-up: GMA Network’s “Bilog na Hugis Itlog” Election Advocacy Campaign Jingle
I wonder what or whose “itlog” was being referred to in the song but wasn’t the shape of that thingy in our ballot ovate? Anyway, altogether now… “May bilog, may bilog na hugis itlog…”

“Tiba-Tiba” Award
Winner: ABS-CBN, GMA7, other broadcast networks, newspapers
For the millions if not billions of pesos in revenues from political advertisements. Walang kinikilingan! Walang pinuprotektahan! At magpapatrol saan man sa mundo, basta’t may TV at may tao! Whateverrrrr! Blow-out naman d’yan, mga friends!
Runner-up: Candidates who solicited and accepted campaign contributions but never really campaigned. Matalo man, panalo pa rin! Ang kakapal ng mukha n’yo!

Best Single Performance By A Female Supporter in a Non-Campaign Sortie
Winner: Kris Aquino on ‘The Buzz’ (March 14, 2010)
In her most convincing performance yet as an actress, an emotional Kris Aquino took a swipe at her brother’s critics. Nope, she was not campaigning. It just so happened that she had to mention the name “Noynoy” 15 times during Boy Abunda’s interview.
Runner-up: Baby Villar-Benedicto lambasting ABS-CBN and GMA 7 for being allegedly biased against her brother
A few more workshop sessions and Odette Khan’s got competition. Good luck!

“In All Fairness, Kinaya Nilang Manahimik During the Campaign” Award
Winner: Korina Sanchez
Two thumbs up for Mrs. Palengke for keeping it low-key. Next time lang, kung manonood ka ng Tears for Fears concert at magpa-flash ka ng Laban sign sa camera, make sure na wala sa crowd ang very honest na si TJ Manotoc para ‘di ka ulit ma-tweet!
Runner-up: The Macapagal-Arroyos
Aminin n’yo, tahimik sila! Na-miss n’yo ‘noh?

“Campaign Paraphernalia Gone Wrong” Award
Winner: Nanay Curing Villar
Two reasons why it failed: One, she’s octogenarian, let her rest! Two, she’s in orange.
Runner-up: Baby James
Two reasons why it failed: one, like his mother Kris, he is tactless. Two, he’s not cute. (Come on, objectively, he’s not!)
“When I was a boy, I was told that anybody could become President; I’m beginning to believe it.” ~Clarence Darrow

    1. I disagree. I suggest that after the election, Kris Aquino should form a Dirty Tricks Department to go after Pacquiao, Dolphy, Revillame and other endorsers, Guido Delgado, Pedrosa and others na may pakana sa psychiatric report, including columnists and commentators who kept harping on the abnoy issue.

We want change. Let’s change the “magnanimous in victory” and “tulong tulong” attitude.

  1. Before I forget, para naman mabawasan ang mga tambay diyan sa Pinas, ‘yung kaibigan kong general manager dine sa Saudi ay nangangailangan ng experienced masons, gypsum board installers, welders, carpenters, heavy equipment operators, mechanics at tile setters.

If there’s any one you know, just send passport copy and CV at Ages from 25 to 40.

      1. Not all who work here in KSA are slaves. There are managers, engineers even doctors who enjoy the tax free salaries here. Instead of berating TK we should be thankful that there are concerned citizens who want to share whatever blessings they have here in KSA. A plain laborer here can earn 10K a month which you can’t earn by just sitting and waiting for windfall. May God bless your heart.

      2. Sorry to burst your bubble honey, but for your information, Filipino workers here in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are the most revered and trusted by their employers.

We’re not slaves. I myself hold a key position in one of the world’s biggest industrial plants based here in the Kingdom. I need not mention how much I earn here, else you’ll cream your neon green panties in envy.

I’ll give you an example: Our Filipino Inspection Engineers working for me here gets US$ 45 per hour.

You in fact should be proud of them, ang remittances nila ang nagfo-float ng economy ng Pilipinas.

      3. susnaman,

Am just rying to share not blessings but opportunities our kababayans cannot find in our lupang sinilangan. Hindi ako nambobola katulad ni gloria.

susme, I started here as a cook, worked on site, took care of our manager’s house, did teaboy/office boy jobs, also as a janitor but I insisted fighting for my actual skill, a personnel management specialist. It was my position when I was in the military service way back during martial law days and after Edsa 1 (I just decided to leave the army after seeing the left and right corruption in the government which I did not want to swallow me). Having this rich experience, am now working as an administrator/secretary in one of the projects of one of the seventh top construction firm here in Saudi Arabia.

‘And’yan nga ‘yung name of the company sa e-mail address ko, o.

Whatever material things our OFW’s and their family and relatives enjoy , well deserved po).

Salute to our OFW’s!

on the other hand, my evil, sadistic side wants noynoy to win the presidency, siguro dito na matatapos ang ‘legacy’ ng mga aquino hehehehe

I would like to share this text that’s been circulating the past few days: ****** magkaisa, may-ari ng araneta, ibasura. pisong gamot ipainom ke korina!

At di lang pfizer and me mga products na nag MRP. hahaha. cardiovascular drugs are life saving drugs and the quality could not be compromised. so thanks to mar-imar, bka mga patients na may HPN or CVD bka biglang atakihin dahil sa gamot na piso lang tlaga halaga and im not talking about ASA! pfizer ka ba lawrence?

make second set. what award can you give to:
    – boy nograles
    – anabelle rama (her other “daughter” raymond was seen to have endorsed villar, then this week, ruffa & her attended a press conference endorsing gibo with all the artist she managed. but before that, during the incident with kris & ruffa, anabelle said ‘nawalan’ sya ng kita dahil libre ang endorsement ni ruffa before to noynoy. meaning she is worthy of “go negosyo” award – or runner up to “tiba-tiba award”.
    – edu manzano, what’s his award?
    – presidentiable acosta – you missed him for an award.
    – jamby, jc, and jay sonza
    – also willie revillame, sarah geronimo, dolphy, manny pacquaio

  6. Ironically PH Erap the actor and his son Jinggoy didnt receive any award this time.

YOu should have also handed out last minute noisemakers award to:
Jejomar Binay – Mistress issue with matching sweet photos ( does any reader know the name of the mistress?)
Ate Koring – Flashing the laban sign when camera focused on her and Darleen then denying it kahit may proof sa Youtube

I hope in case Noy doesnt win, Kris and Noy together with Mar and Koring wont stage a people power and announce it on the Buzz. Same way that we have to deal with Krissy should Kuya NOy win the election. Am sure the first question on the first presscon would have to deal with Kuya NOy’a wedding with Baby James and Josh in the entourage.

it’s a mad house here at the war room. made it through the first batch of presidential bets (for my touch screen report). about three more reports to go. up since 3am, but at least i’m having coffee na. enjoy election day!
just read your tweet from tj’s tweetdeck beside me!

  7. i love the baby james comment. truthfully, when he first came out in that pampers commercial, i was like “hu’s this ugly kid at bakit napasama sa commercial”, then kris picked him, anak pala siya ni kris. in fairness to the kid, he is looking better.. hehehe.. parang si julianna gomez.

  8. Addendum to the “Tiba-tiba Award” if I may – 2nd runner-up – Pulse Asia and SWS for all those surveys cum propaganda material they were spewing out prior to the elections. As a market researcher, I know for a fact that a typical survey would cost the client (person paying for the survey) an average of P1,000.00/respondent. So just imagine how much they earned! Kalokah!

🙂 ..namputsa minsan lang mangyari na magkaroon halaga ang bawat Pilipino at makisawsaw ang mga ipis color blind pa..may sa taga-bulag yata mga kandidato.. after six years pa mauulit ito or maybe never..let there be light so i can see the true colors ng dapat iboto..kahit ipis nakakaboto sa Pinas ..iyong patay nga nabubuhay eh at bumoboto ipis pa! See you all bukas at maging mapayapa at matagumpay sana ang eleksiyon! 🙂

  10. Noynoy and his cigarette: Hi PH I was watching GMA new coverage a few minutes ago with my kids and to our surprise the camera caught him puffing a smoke. My kids who are aware he is running for president of our country asked if it was a cigarette on NOy’s mouth? The mike Enriquez asked the same question.
Should he win, I know it is impossible to quit especially with the overwhelming responsiblity that goes with his job, pero please not in public.

  11. with your permission i would like to add another award because i think this guy deserves some recognition.

    Andal Ampatuan jr. as the winner of ;

“the most unwanted political endorsement of all time award”
for his spirited endorsement of noynoy aquino. which noynoy bluntly replied with “thanks, but no thanks”

    for exactly the same reason.

naku at tiyak, mamaya nito after the voting ends at 7pm,

this is an automation gone wrong. logistics at its worst. grabeh.

  13. Noynoy will not be able to stop Smoking sooner it would take him sometime and because of that habit he might succumb to Emphysima (Cancer of the throat) or Lung Cancer. So why trust him with your vote when he himself in not concerned with is own health. Do you think he can control the 50Million Filipinos expecting him to rule the Island as a president in case he wins the Presidency. I am also a previous cigarette chain smoker and it is only my will to stop and Gods help that I stop smoking abruptly.

Natawa naman ako sa last line, “two, we already knew it”. I saw Noynoy in the TV earlier when he voted. His image consultants must have been going nuts because he looked “unpresidential”. Given na yung pinapawisan kasi mainit talaga, but he looked like an old doddering man when he casted his vote. Physically, a mess. Bald pate shiny with sweat, slouching posture, wrinkled shirt, and a suspicious looking liquid dribbling from the right side of his mouth. mabuti pa si Erap, he looked spiffy despite his old age.

  15. Raul

    TO Raul,

that’s your opinion. man, you are so misinformed. but yes you have the right to choose, and I was not forcing you na kayo me mga sakit na gumamit ng mahal na gamot. kaya nga me sakit ka pa rin hanggang ngayon! bwehehehehehehe…..dahil ang gamot mo, PISO. appparently you haven’t seen patients who died right in front of your eyes because the meds they were taking were ineffective kc piso nga.

  16. PH, this made me laugh. hehe. kudos to you. =)

    to sam:

i can buy branded medicines but i choose to buy generics. so far buhay pa naman ako. kung walang cheaper medicines, more patients would die for not being able to take any medicines at all kasi hindi nila kaya bilhin. i’ve encountered patients na sobrang walang-wala – ni yung tig-pipisong gamot na sinasabi mo eh hindi nila kayang bilhin. what more kung mahal?

  17. i so agree with anonymous’ observation above, at hindi lang
instead of putting on his glasses dahil mag shade na sya, kinuha
    nya ito…

and since it’s inevitable that noynoy will now be the new president
of the philippines, i’m just wondering how will he be able to work
with non lps starting maybe with mar kung tuloy-tuloy na mamalasin,
and the senatoriables, papaano na yan na ang mga kailangan nya
hindi naman napasama, so, isang malaking good luck sa bago
    mong job noynoy….

precinct next sa amin, napakahaba ng pila, the voters were very

    Future Investment Award

Winner: Villar – People are now thinking it was crazy for him to self finance his billion of pesos campaign and only end up in third place. It didn’t help that erap is beating him for the runner up slot. Well guess what, as a business man, he has already invested for 2016. Yup, all those kids with Last Song Syndrome are going to be voting by then. Na isahan na naman si Mar. 🙂

Runner up: Chiz – his endorsement of Noy, Binay and even Tito Sotto will get him juicy senate committee chairman slots and some future endorsements for 2016.

    “What was I thinking?” award

Winner: Edu Manzano – running as VP for the administration bet seemed to be a good decision at the time. But with no TV ads not even a guest appearance in Gibo’s ads were pretty obvious signs that the best endorsement he was going to get was from his son Luis. If only their “Lucky Me” ads ran a little longer…

Runner Up: “Justice Man” Bello – ok the idea didn’t click well the first time around yet he still decided to wear this superhero costume and fly around his second ad. This was far worse than the “Pichay” mascot in the last election.

  19. and may I add, “nakakaloka” ang entry na ito bwahahahaha:
“Mehh Ganun?” Award otherwise known as the “Cheesiest Declaration of a Political Endorsement” Award
Gib Obama, Gibo Obama.”

    Ang cheesy!!! bwahahahahaha

  20. With black & white movement guarding and watching his every move, krissy using her new found power/influence in the showbiz, Binay as VP, Villar back in the senate and GMA in the lower house.. mukhang mapapanot lalo si Noy in 3 years, will smoke more frequently and finally, magkakaroon na ng totoong psychiatric report 🙂

guys i got to admit, sobrang talino talaga ni gma, ung passive nga naman ung pinakamagandang tignan para sa mga pilipino, una, mabubuo ung credibility ng automated elections at the same time, hindi pa mukhang dinaya si noynoy, less opportunity for a ‘heroic’ situation for his partymates. mula sa bangkang papel boys to ampatuan endorsements hanggang sa glitch ng pcos are just ‘shows’ to gauge the ‘intelligence’, reaction and perception of the filipino people to her govt. napanood ko kahapon nung bumoto si gloria, that was the most perfect poker face i’ve ever seen.

as for the vp, he will have a very crucial role in the next few months. mahina talaga si erap para isipin na election related pa rin ung picture na lumalabas sa internet, ang purpose nun eh magcreate ng rift between binay and erap. if binay knew something about the picture, i can’t tell, but one thing is sure, one among erap camp took and spread the picture. aside from unquenching thirst for power, magsesearch pa ako kung ano pa ang pwedeng connection ni binay at gma. all i can say is wow, i never knew gma would be this intelligent and sadistic… ^^

  22. mr ph,

    here’s some hot topics around.
    – how will villar recover the money he lost for the campaign
    – korina allegedly got very hot headed (read was really a bitch) on abs newsroom coz binay is number 1 on vp result.
    – willie revillame allegedly was suspended by abs big boss and not ‘on leave’ on wowowee

    – erap did not vote for any vp (search youtube for the news clip)
    – erap kissed guia gomez on the lips when she was proclaimed winner in san juan… this will make loi file for recount. hehe

    another people power, walang nangyari…

presidente pa sya, papaano pa kaya ngayong congresswoman

      1. to checkmate:

hi. i think madaming factors kung bakit hindi naging successful yung mga attempts na patalsikin si gloria. first, medyo naging passive ang mga pinoy. aaklas lang ang mga tao if their very freedom is contained at kung masyado nang oppressive ang government. second, walang better alternative kapag napatalsik si gloria. we have to admit, hindi ganun kaganda ang prospects if noli replaced gloria. third, the people who wanted her out of the office eh may kanya-kanyang ulterior motive for doing so and so the people did not rally behind them. remember hyatt 10? fourth, it cannot be denied, master ng power play si gma. read: transactional politics. and this, i think, is the primary reason kung bakit hindi sya napatalsik. scheming, yes, but not that powerful.

tama ka, kelangan tingnan yung mga motives ng mga politicans na yan at ang kanilang mga moves, counter-moves and counter counter-moves. in the end, it’s all about personal interests and self-preservation. 😉

at saka sir lou, sa politics, hindi ka pwedeng maging scheming without being that powerful. if gma is not that powerful, her schemes might work but the reward will not be hers.
