OF BATTLES & BOLOS

No Revenge

President Arroyo says military offensives against the Abu Sayyaf must continue, not as an act of vengeance but as a strategy to win the peace. That’s her tried and tested formula whenever she’s into a fight with the First Gentleman.

Target: Presidency

Sen. Richard Gordon is running for president in 2010. If he wins, he’ll become the first Dick to rule the Philippines.

Mar Roxas is reportedly eyeing the presidency too but he refuses to talk about his plans for 2010. That makes him a “closet contender” for president.

Kiss and Make Up

President Arroyo and opposition senator Loren Legarda kissed each other on the cheek and then shared a laugh when they met at the 44th National Defense College of the Philippines Foundation and Alumni Homecoming Day. They had no choice. Cameras were everywhere.

The Love Goat

A 63-year old man in Washington, USA has been accused of having sex with a goat. But that’s nothing compared to the country’s Congressional spouses who continue to sleep with crocodiles.

Heroic Stance?

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) last week announced its plan to arm traffic enforcers with bolos or itak. They will be deployed in Katipunan. Tabloid headline soon: Mga tao ni Fernando, pormang bayani.

Top 3 Instances in the Past Where the Bolo Could Have Been Useful

3: During the Tipo-tipo, Basilan battle. Eye for an eye? No, it’s head for a head!

2: The Oakwood Mutiny. It would have been more dramatic if the mutineers had bolos instead of armalites and bombs.

1: During the selection of the House Speaker. Imagine Digs Dilangalen waving a bolo while shouting “Mr. Spikir! Mr. Spikir! Shut up! Shut up!”

null White Rabbit Lover

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo says he’s a White Rabbit fanatic and is not at all bothered by findings that the Chinese-made candy brand has formaline. Now that explains why the good secretary looks “preserved.”

Yilmaz and Ruffa

Yilmaz Bektas claims he and Ruffa Gutierrez have reconciled. Yawns.

Maryanne,

Alam mo, pareho silang mukhang tanga. Remember what Ruffa said, “Hindi ko na kaya Tito Boy.”

Eh, ano itong appearance nila sa “The Buzz” together?!?

Team Gordon 2010

Good evening Mr. Heckler!

In reaction to: “Sen. Richard Gordon is running for president in 2010. If he wins, he’ll become the first Dick to rule the Philippines.” We dare ask, would people rather have a cunt ruling the country?

But seriously, the future is nothing to joke about. We all know that this country needs some serious changes… We can’t leave the tough and terrible business of change to chance… We need somebody with vision, experience and a solid track record for effecting changes that are for real, for better, for everyone and for generations to come… That somebody is Dick Gordon.

Olongapo, Subic, and Tourism… The Philippine National Red Cross… The Fair Elections Act which aims to automate the electoral process in time for the 2010 elections and eliminate wholesale electoral fraud… The tourism bill…

Perhaps, people need to take a closer look at Dick Gordon… He has been ready to the country for a long time.

As for :”Mar Roxas is reportedly eyeing the presidency too but he refuses to talk about his plans for 2010. That makes him a “closet contender” for president.” We were going to ask why he seems so chummy chummy with Joel Salceda, John Osmena, and Boy Abunda?

Mar denies to talk about his 2010 plans, although it’s obvious for some, because he wants to focus on the things that he is doing today. He doesn’t want that every thing that he will do from 2007 to 2009 will be perceived as a tool for gearing up for 2010.

We are not also sure what will happen from now up to May 10, 2010. There might still be big things that would happen and might change the course of the 2010 campaign.

After Dick Gordon admitted that he has presidential ambitions in 2010, I am afraid that it might hinder him from doing things for the fact that it would imply, as perceived by the people, a work for 2010.

It doesn’t matter if Mar or other potential presidentiables (Loren, Chiz, Noli, Manny, Ping, even Jamby) doesn’t admit that he’s running. It his choice if he will run or not! Who are we to decide for him? We are just here to let him know that we support his presidential bid, if ever. It depends on him if he bites our offer.

Kevin,

In reaction to this: “After Dick Gordon admitted that he has presidential ambitions in 2010, I am afraid that it might hinder him from doing things for the fact that it would imply, as perceived by the people, a work for 2010”

Such a fear is baseless and Dick Gordon continues his work as Chairman of the Philippine National Red Cross and as Senator. The people he helps and the people he serves as Senator have no reason to doubt his intentions because, like his stand on a lot of things, his position is always clear and his sincerity is always evident.

His recent visit to the provinces of Basilan and Sulu as Red Cross Chairman to distribute humanitarian aid just as renewed military offensives go underway… His privileged speech calling for people to INVEST IN PEACE… His further calls for people to stop calling Basilan, Sulu, and other areas in Mindanao as Zones of War… All of this has been done with the intent of furthering the cause of ending violent conflict in the Southern Philippines and easing the plight of our countrymen in these areas… He is no stranger to this cause, both as a humanitarian and as a public servant… When he was still tourism secretary, he had already fought against travel advisories against the Philippines and had already been promoting areas in Mindanao as tourist destinations… He has been a Red Cross volunteer and governor for decades… The people whose lives he has touched have no reason to doubt his intentions and his intention, clearly, is to help — as it has always been.
